91 DP570 350 V8..wont fire over as if no spark..standard electrical ign. No arc of electric bridgeing over to distributor..coil is old may be orig. I assume it's the coil but with ignition key on shouldn't I have at least 12v going into the coil? The only visable writing on the orig coil is CCB A-164. Also what is the diff between a marine coil and an auto? I found this mallory marine coil @ summit racing but it doesn't say if it's for a V8 or anything part# 9-29707 for $42.84.

Is it worth getting a hi performane coil?

Re: no start coil suspect

Thanks El P. Do you have to use special or hi performance ign. wires with the expoy 40K 12 volt coil?

Re: no start coil suspect

As far as I know, the coil can be used with normal wires. At least, I haven't used any special wires for the one I had installed on my engine a couple of years ago.

With the ignition key on you should have 12v between one side of the coil and earth. ( Not necessarily across the coil because the points may not be closed.)

Re: no start coil suspect

Does any one know the oem specs for the orig. Stock coil? How many volts and ohms? It does have an internal resister right? I have a GM 350 with stand. Elec. Ign. I do not have points.

Re: no start coil suspect

Got the VP fired up..wasn't the coil was the wiring harness in the back of the engine..giggled it around and got the proper voltage to everything..is there a better way of securing the harness pin connections together then just the metal hose clamp that keeps the rubber round pin connection together? Bought a new coil anyway got the flame thrower and at least I learned a lot more information about me electrical ignition system by reading the VP workshop manual.
