No Start Blocked Exhaust

Boat has been at dock unused for over a year and has become a floating reef. Both outdrives are fully encrusted with growth.

I had been starting and running them up until 8mos ago. The engines have always easily started and run well. But now neither engine will start. They are both getting fuel and spark but sound labored when turning over.

I noticed that nothing is coming out of the props when cranking (I used to see sediment and bubbles when cranking before).. after stoping cranking I might get a small bubble that comes out... could the exhaust be blocked and not allowing them to start?

Any ideas on how to open the exhaust without damage to prop or out drive and while it's in the water? I have to get it to the boatyard for a haul out and sale of boat.

Opinion anyone?

Service the batteries and cables. Fresh fuel would make a difference. Marine growth is a problem; may need towed.

If both outdrive are Fully encrusted I cant imagine it stops there sounds like a few critters or some nasty crustys have set up shop in your cooling or exhaust system not to mention rust little water in the right place for the right amount of time will rust cylnder walls makeing it very hard to start Id start with batterys and cables for sure as GuyG said not sure if you could blow out the cooling system or exhaust system with a presure washer mite clear them or over presureize and explode them best bet is to know for sure pull it outa the water and tear in check every thing no sense in blowing a 5k+ motor because of a $100 water pump or simalar part

"New fuel, new batteries and a 200amp "starting charger" help them spin over better but still won't fire. When they first spin they spin fine but within a few seconds they still start to struggle.

They also have enclosed cooling system with sea water side flush outs. The raw water intakes and filters are clear, so are fuel filters/seperaters.

Till now neither ever had any problems starting, now both... ARGH!

I'll try pressure washing... Thanks"

"Install new spark plugs and points if equipped. Plugs are probably fouled from short runs and sitting a long time and trying to start with bad gas. Use an external fuel source of 2-5 gal. and a can of SEA FOAM in it to get the solution into the fuel system. If it runs--it will, have the old fuel pumped out."
