no spark

I have a 1997 mercury 25 hp outboard with no spark. I have bypassed the run/stop switch and still have no spark. What do I try next?

If you have an ohm meter check the trigger and stator coils for continuity. Don't worry about the readings, just that the circuit isn't open. You might get lucky and find one of them is shot--cheaper than a switch box or coils.

PS: There's two stator coil circuits on that engine (which has electronic spark advance). If the low speed one is dead, the motor won't show any spark.
