Hello everybody first time on site someone please help want to fish not to do list, have 1988 Larson 3.0lt omc things that were done on boat, replaced points and codensor with sierra electronic ignition conversion kit it did start and we took on lake no problem, then started it Friday with ears and hose ran good took to ocean sunday, backed it in started and backed off trailer and went and park truck came back and my buddy was paddeling it back in cause it died and wouldn't start drove home checked again and no spark, then we put new coil in and checked volts at positive side of coil had 3.75 battery is new plugs new wires new but no spark Please help want to fish not the lawn.

what does sparks has anything to do with inside of the hose? The very first thing you should check is the safety switch. I had a friend drove the boat one time and after he shuts it off I couldn't start it. I checked and there was no sparks. Found out the friend stepped on the safety line and pull it out. This was at night and after we used the trolling motor to get back to the dock.

You should have 12V at the positive side of the coil if you have 3.75V then you have a bad connection to the battery. Check the obvious before you go buy parts. Electronic parts are not returnable at some places. Good luck.

as far as i know there is no safety switch, the connections are all clean and tight i know this because i work on cars all day long not boats, and yes i can return electrical parts because my buddy works there,we were thinking that the micro switches on shifter mechanism may be causing the problem.

where is that lanyard located im not boat mechanic im car mechanic but willing to learn if you could let me know i really appreciate it so much youll never know, fishing instead of listening to the wife is much more fun

where did you have the black lead of your meter when you read the 3.75V at coil +?

basically, start where you have 3.75V, work your way back toward the key switch, then toward the battery if necessary until you find 12V.

on the negetive side of coil,
then your measurement was of no value, and that 3.75V was a meaningless number. If you read up about how points work, you'll see why.

Take all measurements with your black lead on batt (-) or a good ground (bare metal).

what does sparks has anything to do with inside of the hose? The hose part is from the signature section, read much? It's telling about ethanol as a general statement. Don't critisize anyone post unless your the only one posting.Mor on that later.

The boatmade in 88 should have some kind of lanyard or kill button. It's possible that it's been bypassed. The button might be in the shifter? Depending on what's installed. The shift assist unit might be engaged? It should move freely try to shift it and see if it's free.Unplug it to see if it's makes a difference? Pics of the dash/shifter? Unhook the hot lead to the coil and see if the voltage goes up?

retaested voltage at coil the same 4.95 key on volt meter black to negative battery terminal and red to coil, then removed positive wire on coil and tested the same way 12 volts found, then tested from battery to starter black on black and positive lead to violet/black wire on starter key on cranking only 9.5 volts shouldn't there be 12 volts coming out of starter bcause that is what energizes the coil and then shuts down and sends a signal to distributor to send spark to the plugs correct, the question is shouldn't the starter put out 12 volts to the coil,or does anybody have an idea why this bucket of bird poop wont start.
