no spark

i have a 1995 mercruiser with a thunderbolt 4 ignition,i just bought the boat a couple of months ago and when i tried to start it i didnt have spark.what could this be from and is this a common problem with these ignition systems?

safety lanyard switch
no 12V at the + side of the coil
shorted tach lead
sheared rotor/dist shaft/camshaft/timing chain
corroded ground wire on amplifier
cracked coil tower
just to name a few

Ayuh,... 1995 otta be a T-Bolt V, not IV...

Perform Bondo's troubleshooting suggestions first. If all is OK then try another coil to distributor HV wire. If the spark is not there then get a Merc. manual and perform the ignition tests to find the problem.
