Just bought the boat and motor

Just bought the boat and motor (never ran it). It has excellent compression in all 6 cylinders - all 6 just under 90psi. However I am not getting an spark to the plugs. This evening I am going to bypass the safety switch and make sure that is not the problem. I purchased the Seloc manual for that motor and did some reading there. What order would you recommend that I check things to find out why there is no spark? The guy I bought it from said they started it earlier this year with no problems and I really believe he is telling the truth.

"Tim, just work your way through the tests in the manual.

Start with the stator test - if it isn't working right then the ignition has no "power".

Then the timer base/sensor assembly - this is what tells the coils to fire (in order).

And then check the switch box (a common point of failure).

I think it is unlikely that all 6 of your coils failed (but you never know) - ditto the plug wires.

Initially, I would suspect that either the switch box or the stator is the problem since you have no spark at all - but all must be checked..."

"Could be safety switch if this boat has one, the ignition switch, or a pinched wire. Unplug the large connector on the back of the engine. Use jumper cables directly to starter. If you now have spark, you can rule out all of the ignition components."
