My mercruiser 3.0 with digital electronic ignition, a 1992 model, will not start after installing an alternator. I don't see a spark either. It ran great before this but was overcharging. Two wires were disconnected on the old alternator. Those wires are the sensing and excitation. Well, I hooked em back up. I even installed a charge lamp, in series, on the excitation circuit. The boat did not come with one but chat gpt suggested it. Supposedly, it acts as a resistor. Im quite heartbroken. I have been working on this boat all week for months. I would go out on the boat on a weekend, make a list, order upgrades and after work, grab a coffee, climb in the boat and make it better. This problem is outside my wheelhouse.
