no reverse

i have a '75 bass Ranger, with an old 80 merc. on it. I took it to a supposedly professional to put a water pump in , now I don't have reverse. So evidently he didn't put in in gear when he dropped the lower unit. And all the marinas are 6-7 weeks out. Is their a way I can drop the lower unit and line it up to get the reverse working again.

Yes, drop the LU just enough to uncouple the shift shaft. Put your remote in N. Using a pair of pliers, turn the shift shaft in the LU till you have N. Recouple the LU.
