I recently finally got my engine running(bad gas) while on the trailer and attached to the hose it went into forward and the prop worked nicel. I quickly went to the local river and put the boat in the water, started up, lowered the motor and attempted to put in reverse. I got a slow ,just not engaging sound. I proceeded to try for reverse, when I pulled it all the way it finally engaged and quickly stalled. I tried again and had the same result. I raised the motor to discover that I had foolishly lowered the prop into the gritty and Shelly bottom and had a handful of crap inside the prop. I proceeded to remove a do clean out the crap, I put the prop back on and checked it sun freely, and it did . Started up and had the same result. My questions are,
1, did the crap in the prop create the problem? Fyi I was not moving during this time
2, could it just be a coincident that the cable is out of adjustment? The boat wasn't used for 2 seasons
3 even though I cleaned out the crap, was there a chance something got into the gears?
4 or could it be something other than a cable adjustment?
Need help, Bill
