I am trying to get some revers

I am trying to get some reverse but have now lost it
It started to chatter putting in forward gear had a friend make adjustment> when back on load forward is fine but now no reverse. It was there before.tried to return it to its original spot but think I may have lost it.
Do I make adjustment at linkage spot or disconnect
then make adjustment. manual is not clear on this it only explains throttle adjustment. any help would be great thanks

"have u had the lower unit off?if so,u may have turned the shift rod,and that,is an adjustment..
If u have not,had the lower unit off,...disc shift cable,...put engine in neutral,..put control box in neutral,...lay cable close to eng connection,and adjust to fit...clamp...then,w/eng off,....spin prop,shift to rev,...it should lock,..if not,turn black plastic wheel to left,giving u more rev distance,back to neutral,u should be in N,then try forward...same adj...if problems persist,..make sure your cable is traveling the full distance both ways....suspecting a poss control box problem...if u do all this,and it still does not perform,...i would pull the LU,and ck shift rod height,in N...if that is within specs,...its gearcase time to teardown/inspect."
 
Yes I did have LU off for a ne

Yes I did have LU off for a new water pump.
Seloc Manual 1990 Thru 01 Two and 4 stroke models.Did what it said to replace pump But I believe thats where problem started Will I have more problems now if cable has been adjusted too. Just had the boat out this morning forward was fine no reverse

i would pull lower unit,...put in Neutral,and ck
