NO power after starter replaced

Hello,

I'm hoping someone might be able to help me diagnose this strange issue. The starter on my 3.0L '05 Mercruiser went out, so I replaced it as I have done several times. Installation went fine, I've done it several times so it was nothing new. However, when I tried to start the engine - absolutely nothing. Gauges are dead, blower wont work, bilge wont work... absolutely nothing. Here are all the things I checked:

  • Battery is fully charged
  • Starter itself works (bypassed the starter solenoid, starter turns over)
  • NO Voltage from ground to either the starter control wire or the starter power supply
  • Every fuse (inline and block) I could find
  • Big red breaker on top of the engine
  • No loose/disconnected wires to speak of

I don't know what else to check. I'm assuming it has to be somewhere between the battery and where power splits off to go to engine/blower/bilge. The only place I haven't probed for voltage is in the large conduit behind the engine... which would be very messy.

Thanks in advance! I'd ideally be using my boat on my birthday... but there's always the weekend!

Exactly how did you bypass the solenoid and jump the stater. If you jumped the small inboard lug to the main battery lug and the starter did spin, the battery connections are good If you did not turn off/ remove the battery cable you most likely blew the 90A link in the plastic block at the starter. You can verify this by checking for 12v at the alt output wire(orange)
No voltage= 90A is bad or you never connected it.
