"Hi all. I just resealed one of my 454 Crusaders. Front and rear main seals, valve seals, a valve job and its all back together and painted. I'm getting ready to fire it. I have an oil pump primer, (a shaft made for spinning the oil pump shaft thru the dist. hole), and have primed the pump. I have an oil pressure guage, (2 actually), hooked up, and cannot build more than 6-8 pounds. I have fresh oil in the pan, but, I see no oil getting up to the rockers. I pulled the oil line to the sender and oil is flowing when I spin the pump. What am I missing? Please help before I pull any more (not much left) hair out of my head!! Thanks"

oil won't pump up to the rocker arms by spinning the pump. the lifters push it up the pushrods. engine must be turning over. pressure does seem low.

Turning the motor with a Wrench isn't going to Pump up the Lifters......"

"Hi all. Bought a mechanical gage. 30-35 lbs. Put the dist in and fired her up, 40-45 lbs idle. whew. It took several minutes, shutting off in between to check things, for oil to get up to the rockers. All seems well. Now time to dismantle engine number two, Thanks for the help, Mark"

you're welcome. don't

you're welcome. don't trust electric guages when it's really important to be accurate. glad all turned out well. good luck with number two.

"Awesome. I was going to suggest the check valve on the pump. Marcus... congratulations on doing this stuff yourself. Althought i was no help, I love helping people who are not afraid to man up and tear it down!"
