No oil alarm still at idle Refresher - wot no problems ,using plenty of oil but at long idle get the no oil alarm,if I squeeze the tight bulb real hard the alarm will shut down for a few minutes. Vro was changed two years ago, pulled the oil tank apart all looks good, changed all the recirculating hoses today, pulled oil hose from tank to motor changed all connectors to plastic round rachet type, put it on the hose "no oil alarm" .What am I missing? The oil is a couple of years old could it have thickened, it is the old OMC evinrude oil. I bought a pallet of it when omc went under I have 4 gallons left should I chunk it. Or could it be the VRO again . I guess if nothing else I will pull it down this weekend and test it."

"Did you change the oil filter

"Did you change the oil filter? If not, do so. Very unlikely the oil would go bad.

The problem you describe, if you are describing the beep every other second (no oil) alarm can be caused by:

A restricted oil flow. Check by removing the line at the engine, then pumping the oil primer bulb.

Air in the line. Look for evidence of a oil leak at some point in the oil supply line.

And of course, a failing VRO (let's hope not).

(Priming The VRO Pump)
(J. Reeves)

When hooking up or installing a VRO whether it is a new or original VRO pump, it must be primed in order to dispel any air that might be in the oil line.

Have the Oil line attached to the engine fitting BUT detached from the VRO. Add a piece of fuel hose if necessary to the oil line so that it can be aimed into some sort of container.

Pump the oil primer bulb, catching the oil flowing out of the line into the container until you are absolutely sure that you have rid the oil line of every bit of air that might have been trapped there.

Now, connect the oil line to the VRO and secure it. When the oil line is secured, apply pressure to the oil primer bulb ONE TIME only. That's it.

"by the book .,...the ratchet

"by the book .,...the ratchet clamps,..r specified,....i dont likem,or trust them,..they ALL,loosen up,..this is ONE area..i use ss clamps..period...no fuel ties,of which there IS a place,..but in my opinion, not on oil line..
actually...the line--whether it be fuel,or oil,..should fit,and seal,on its on,...the clamp,tie,or ratchet clamp,etc...just makes sure of it."

"I have done all above at leas

"I have done all above at least 2 times. With the exception of the oil filter . Are you talking about the one in the oil tank or is there another somewhere else I do not know about. If you are talikng about the sock in the tank it is spotless. If for some reason it does wound up being the VRO what would be causing them to go bad so quickly? Should I just go ahead and replace the bulb and line, it has the original on it but it has always stayed tight, even now."

"there is a sock filter in tan

"there is a sock filter in tank...and i replaced a vro last summer,..that kept going off at low speed....after going thru all the usual BS trblshting,...it was a warped vro hsng, sucking air at low speed, causing loss of oil at pump/sensor,,...HS operation, was ok,as well as oil flow..."
