Nissan carb problems

What would cause gas to overflow out of carb when tank is hooked up.but when disconnected no overflow out of hole on top of carb.nissan 6 horse 4 stroke 2002.

Maladjusted float in carb, That controls the needle and seat function

Year means nothing. Assuming your model is NSF6A2. The needle is stuck open. The needle is aluminum, and rides in a brass seat. Odds are the needle has rough oxidation (from moisture) on its sides. You may be able to clean that off with crocus cloth, or just replace it. The float did not just come out of adjustment.

Thanks for the help.just cleaned it and back to normal.its been sitting 4 years in basement took carb apart cleaned everything.thanks again.
