nissan 8 2 stroke LU prop shaft seal

I'm assuming your model is M8B, right? Once you have the prop shaft out of the "spool" housing, you can drive the prop shaft seal out with a drift punch (from the inside towards the outside), or if you have one, you can use a small seal puller.
 
Mr. Paul, thanks for your reply.I do have the prop shaft housing out of the LU. My engine is a Nissan NS8B 1996. Looking at my shop manual I think after removing the prop there is a spacer that should slide off the shaft exposing the seal. Is this correct. I think the spacer is seized up. Thanks again
 
Mr paul, I have a NS8B. Looking at my manual, I think the prop comes off the shaft and then the spacer comes off to expose the seal. Is this correct? Thanks Ricky
 
Thanks. If your part is too badly corroded, a new one is available from any Tohatsu/Nissan dealer, including me. 3B2642301M THRUST HOLDER (F8-9.8) $12.55.
 
I have a tohatsu 2 stroke 8 HP. I am trying to replace the lower unit seals and water pump. I have the lower unit apart but cannot get the prop shaft out. Do I need a puller? I have the prop off. Do I try to remove the housing then the shaft? What holds it all in? I need to replace the seal.
 
Okay I got the housing out. I am in the same situation as the original poster. How to expose and replace the oil seal? I do have the tohatsu 2 stroke 8 HP M8B. Do I need to remove the thrust holder?

You need to know and understand how the prop shaft and clutch and housing are assembled. Refer to your Factory service manual.

No need to go from dealer to dealer for seals. You could have just bought 3B2873213M LOWER UNIT GASKET KIT 8B $30.95 from any dealer, including me. As for the reassembly, again, you should: "refer to your Factory service manual." FWIW, the spring holder is inserter forward of the clutch and pin. Further, the cam rod should have the straight portion inserted through the WP and LU... the "jog" goes up, and forward. You would not be asking these questions, and would have been done long ago, if you were using the Factory service manual, Part # 003-21035-1, $44.17, available from any dealer, including me. Knowledge is power... and that book has a lot of knowledge.
