Nissan 2.5hp carburetor adjustment

Complete newbie with 2 stroke engines, here. Bought a 1992 Nissan 2.5A that had been sitting. Cleaned the carb, replaced the impeller, new gas, and it runs now.

Since I don't have a feel for what idle should sound like, I was wondering if there's any standard setting, like, "two complete turns out from fully seated," or something like that for these carbs. I counted 8 turns from fully seated to fully out, so I started at 4 turns. It seemed to run smoother by turning it in maybe 1 or 2 turns from there. It's idling higher but smoother. When it was turned out, the motor kicked more. Will a high idle hurt it?

Any guidance, rules of thumb, etc. are appreciated as I plan to put it in the water for the first time this weekend and don't want to have to take the cover apart and make an adjustment on the water.

Tested the idle with a tachometer and it's at 4000 rpm!!!
After reading more, I'm convinced the clip on the jet needle is set wrong. I have the 2.5a Nissan, so where should the clip be set?

I emailed Nissan outboard support (amazing that they still keep it open), and he informed me that of the four slots, my 2.5a requires placement on the second from the bottom (point of the needle). It was previously set second from the top.

Warning to others: while trying to move it, the clip flew off, never to be seen again. Waiting for a replacement in the mail now, LoL
