"This is a terribly basic question but i'd rather ask it than go on not knowing.. I have a 99 Mercury Mariner 40 HP outboard with serial #0G919724 and i'm wondering how I can tell whether it's a 2 stroke/4 stroke engine? I figured it was similar to V6-V8 in that I could count the # of spark plugs but my outboard has 3...
Consequently, I'm confused as to how to tell besides there being an obvious sticker on the engine cover. My second question is what type of manual is most common/helpful for this outboard. Thanks!"

2 stroke. 3 cylinder. Carbs ar

2 stroke. 3 cylinder. Carbs are on the back it is a 2 stroke. On the side intake it is a 4 stroke.

Zachary, definately a 1999 model and definately a 2 stroke - Merc didn't start building the 4 stroke 40's until 2001 and the serials started 0Txxxxx"
