In need of mechanical assistance. I have a 1985 Evinrude 6hp outboard that I cannot get started. It has fresh fuel/oil mix 50:1 as instructed by Evinrude, new spark plugs (changed today)
.

If it's not been started in a long time it'll probably need to have the carburetor cleaned and a carb kit installed. I would check the spark first.

Good luck.

Running 2-stroke engines is a 3-part equation. Fuel + Compression + Spark = BANG!!

As Racer said, test your spark first. A spark gap tester is best for this and it should jump a 7/16" gap.

Test compression. Are both cylinders around 100PSI and even?

If both spark and compression test good then you probably have a fuel delivery issue and need to clean/rebuild the carburetor.
