newby here,,need help "95 50hp...

1995 50HP evinrude,2cyl..no spark on #2 cyl..narrow it down to bad power pack,bought new from OEM dealer, $200.00,,OUCH,, now fireing on both cyls,but will only rev up to 2500 RPMS,plug old pack back up,eng opens up only on 1 cyl, new pack 2 cyls only 2500 rpms,disconnect eng temp overheat(tan wire)...no change in rpms..is new pack bad??? is there any thing else that would cause this...need help please...Thank you:(
 
How long have you owned this motor ???-------This is important info for us to have.-----------------Or how did it run before you lost spark on one cylinder???----------------------Did this motor sit for a number of years if you just bought it???------------------------I would begin with a compression test. -Post results if you like.
 
Thanks for the reply,i try to answer the best i can...just bought boat,motor rig,motor has low hours...been setting up about 5 years...owner said it ran great the last time he run it.....compr is good....cleaned carbs...new fuel line & tank,spark plugs,,,motor runs great under 2500 rpms,running down the lake,sounds like bumping rev limiter @ 2500..old pack back on..runs on 1 cyl (#1) but will attempt to open up,around 4200 rpms only on 1 cyl.should run higher rpms,but that's all it will do on 1cyl. im thinking the new pack is bad,,dealer said (NO RETURN ON ELECTRICAL PARTS)..I have the repair manual..checked the stator & timer base as manual said,,all reads good,,i understand this unit has a SLOW circuit,is there any way to bypass this circuit??? thank you...HELP.
 
You had the ----high speed jets ------located in the bottom of the bowl out for cleaning ??------------This is often overlooked.----------------Run it with a timing light to see if it is in fact an ignition problem.
 
carbs were completely disassembled,,soaked for 2hrs,,have not tried timeing light yet,,i will do that today.Really do think its an ignition problem,it will open up with old pack plugged up ,,running on water hose..motor runs great up to 2500...cranks soon as key is touched ..idles smooth. throttles good..
