Hi Guys,

Thought I'd introduce myself being new on the forum.

My name is Adrian and I am new to boating. I bought a Savage Escort with a Yamaha 140 ('97 Salt water series) about 8 months ago.

I have had several problems with the motor but have managed to fix them to varying degrees.

Last week I tried to start the motor but it wouldn't turn over. The motor would go up & down very slowly so I thought I would
charge both my batteries. The motor started basically straight away.......happy !

BUT

the steering wheel & motor don't move ! Motor will not go up or down.....it just 'clicks'
Also found a pool of ???? (think hydraulic fluid/oil...greeny/black) under the motor, also fluid inside the top of the motor
and leaking out of screw holes etc

Can anyone please give me some guidance of what to do & where to start (I have VERY limited knowledge about motors)
I have been to several marine mechanics $ $ . So I am hoping to save $ by trying to fix it myself !

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

It could possibly be your hydraulic pump leaking the oil, that could explain it being under the motor but on top? The clicking sound with your trim could be from a drained battery, solenoid or it not having fluid, it can't go up without fluid pressure, the steering must be electronic and could be the battery as well, if its not electronic then something is stuck or a messed up cable.

That's lower unit fluid, tighten the screws on lower unit and or replace the o rings on them

The clicking sounds like dead battery or bad battery connections on batt
