I think that motor was marketed by more than one company and they all came out of an " offshore factory " in Japan.------White motors on Monday , black motors on Tuesday and blue ones on Wednesday etc etc.

Yes, I'm thinking this was one of the first ventures Merc had with Tohatsu. The ignition is definitely not Merc and doesn't look like Yamaha either.

Also, if you look on the cover in front of the carb it has a funky "T" logo that, if held next to a "Tohatsu" logo, they could be "sisters" at the very least.
