Newbe - NSF25B 3AD-1 Questions about tach options

Hello everyone - I just bought a 2011 Long Shaft Nissan Marine 25 HP Four Stroke, tiller steer with electric start and power trim from a guy that bought it at the factory in TN - got it home and months later realized that it would not fit on his sailboat. He sat on it for two years and finally posted it on Craigslist and I grabbed it. All new, never in service, prop, tool kit, manual and gas line still in bags and the box.

I am going to put it on my 1970 16' Valco Aluminum boat and am curious if I can rig up a tach so I can swap out some props and maximize my hole shot, speed and not over rev my new motor.

Anyone have advise for the proper way to wire up a good tach - I will keep the tack and mount it somewhere - no sure how or where yet!

Thanks in advance for all the great advice I know I will get here. Forums are the best way to pay it forward.

Dave

In our shop, we use the Factory instruments. In your case, you would need the:

Tachometer with oil warning light (BLACK face). 4 inch diameter
Manufactured by Faria Instruments exclusively for Tohatsu. Gauge has a chrome bezel and is back-lit for easy viewing at night/dusk. Features a domed lens to minimize glare in direct sunlight and a fog & scratch resistant coating. Fits all 4-stroke models and 40/50/60/70/90 2-stroke models with oil injection systems and TLDI "F" (tiller) models.
Part # 3AC726400M, $92.31 There is also a white-faced version, if that fits your other instruments better: Part # 3AD726400M, $92.31

In addition, you will want 361725390M LEAD WIRE TACH 20', $46.62
Any dealer can provide you with the tach and cable. I happen to have one on the shelf.

Thank you for you reply … great information!

While doing this - can I also add the Tohatsu hour meter and Trim meter? I am guessing I will need an additional harness?

What about the new multi function tiller - can this be added?

Thanks again for your insight and advise!!

You can add gauges. You would use:

3GF725240M HOURMETER - DIGITAL 2" - BLACK (FMH0214) $61.88 or
3GL725240M HOURMETER - DIGITAL 2" - WHITE (FMH0213) $61.88
The 3R0725371M LEAD WIRE, METER $58.94 is intended for Remote models, but can be wired in to the Tiller models.

also, you could install the:
3R0725252M TRIM METER KIT-25/30B EFI (2-WIRE) $406.49 (which includes the sender and cable harness).

The multifunction tiller kit is pricey ($666.66), and intended for 2013 year-of-manufacture and newer models. Depending on your serial, it is likely not an option. Your motor would need to have the Remote wiring harness, and be serial number 0141213AB or above.

Ok - another question - and thanks for all your help previously!

I am reviewing my service manual as I plan to run through the initial start up and break in this week-end.

I am trying to figure out the specific model designation my motor is - the Model number is "NSF25B 3AD-1" (not sure what the "3AD-1" means).

Serial number is 010633AX.

It is a Nissan Marine 25 Hp four stroke, long shaft with electric start and power trim.

My service manual references: MF, EF, EP, MFG, EFG, EPG, EFT, and EPT.

Any idea which of the above is mine?

Thanks!!

M is manual start (non-electric).
E is electric start.

F is "fishing", or tiller-steered.
P is "pleasure", or remote steer/control.

G is gas assist tilt.
T is power tilt.

Yours is EFT.
Based on the serial number, the motor was manufactured in 2010. Your warranty has expired.
