hi all
this is my first boat motor, calm down there, i live at 5400' in the rocky mountains. there aint many water play places near by.

any hoo, i will likely take the prop off and get it started in a barrel of water this weekend, the first fire-up for me.
question 1. does the water pump turn when the gear selector is in neutral?
question 2. when one does get to a lake, what spare parts should i have on board? pump impeller? prop shear pin? sprk plgs? ___________?

i am strongly considering runnin aviation gas, (100 oct low lead) to keep this carb from being destroyed by this ethanol crap that is coming out of the gas pumps, comments? opinions please?

thanks in advance

The water pump is on the driveshaft and when motor is running it should be pumping._________You should prepare your motor so you do not need to carry spares other than shear pins and sparkplugs.

hey great, thanks racerone. i caught that "SHOULD" . does "murphys law" have a different name on the water?
i work with small engines as a matter of course, this motor was stored for a looong while, i expect some amount of of dried residue in the small passageways so this weekends test in the barrel will have a low concentration of fuel system cleaner in it, with the intention of dissolving residue slowly and burning it thru rather than knocking big chunks loose an plugin up something else... comments?

favorite oil for mixin?, any name brand? i use a lot of twc-3 in air cooled stuff and have always enriched the mix ratio by a min of 10%, old habits die hard
what are the questions i should be asking? this boat stuff is all new....

thanks

Common sense says to install a new impeller if you do not know how old it is.---------If " common sense " was common there would be a lot more of it around !
