new transom mount - paint ?

Had a complete transom mount, gimbal, etc replaced on my 2003 5.7L 350 Bravo 3. It's shiny new. I boat in salt water.

Should I protect it with antifouling now ? Or, wait a season ? If so, what prep should I do ? Hate to scuff it up, but if that's the best way to get a nice mechanical bond - then that's what I'll do In the past, I've used Trilux. Would I need to use Primocon 1st ? ( excluding the deep innards of the transom mount, which I spray, both I've applied the Primocon and Trilux with a brush - the thicker the better ).

Or, is there a product that will adhere without prep ?

Thx

Chris,

So - you would paint the new shiny stuff. Does this paint require prep tot he surface ? Never heard of the stuff. Better than Trilux - I always paint Trilux with a brush ( even use a flux brush to reach into those nasty, tight transom mount spots - be*atch with the ring and gimbal on ! )

Its always best to use the manufacturer's instructions as to surface prep. Do not understand your reluctance to prep a surface that will never see the light of day again!

Been using the Pettit version (WM has a private label of the same paint) of that paint. Works well. Biggest challenge is cleaning the paint can rim spotlessly clean so that the lid reseals totally. One gal good for several years. Paint in can gets very funky if lid not sealed 100%. (Don't ask how I know!)

Also... dip the amount of paint you will think you need into another container (not enough is better than too much), and reseal paint can. The water base in the paint evaporates easily, especially on a windy day if can left unsealed. Do not pour unused paint back into can.
