Hello all. This is my first on the site. Did some research and could not find excatly what my problem is. I have a 2005 Mecruiser 4.3 with the Alpha one outdrive. The boat runs great, but sometimes when I run the engine above 4,000rpm, i get the high temp. alarm. I back off the throttle and let it idle for a min. The temp goes down and I am good to go. Just wondering for suggestions. I will check the inlet water to houseing. That seems like the first step. It is mostly a fresh water boat. Thanks for any help.

Thanks for the replies. I have taken normal outboards apart for the water pump, is there anything special i need to know for the Alpha I? Thanks Again!!!

You can ask the dealer but it is considered a scheduled replacement wear item like spark plugs...it never hurts to ask.

Order the impeller and gasket set since it's fairly new...stick w/Mercruiser parts and not Sierra or GLM. Some people insist you should remove the OD to do it. If it hasn't been off recently for inspection and service go ahead and remove it since it's a good time to inspect the entire drive and it's components. I don't think there will be any lube zerk fittings on the U-joints but if they are there use a marine bearing grease on them. Lube all of the OD zerk fittings . Bearing grease for the gimbal bearing...pump it several times to insure the large bearing gets enough lube. I have two grease guns...1 w/Merc. 2-4-C lube for all ordinary fittings but the bearings and I use waterproof wheel bearing grease on the gimbal bearing.

Thanks guys for all of youre help. I bought the impellar kit that came with the seals and gaskets. Changed it out today and took it for a ride. Did not get hot, but I think I will still need to change the thermostat. Just do not remember the temp all over the place like it is now. Idel is about 140, and runing is around 180. Is this normal? Oh, almost forgot, also changed the fluids while I was at it.

When you replaced the impeller was it intact or missing a piece? A jump from 140 F. to 180 F. is a big leap. It MAY indicate a water flow restriction.
