New to me BF130 stumbles.

Didn't sound or look bad, does it go away when you give it a little more gas or does it "stumble" at all speeds? If it is carburated, I would start there, buy at minimum cleaning out the carbs, fuel filters and plugs. Then go from there. Anytime I buy a used engine, it gets new filters, plugs, gas, oil, lower unit oil and gas lines inside and outside. Then for me next steps past the plugs is the wires and ignition packs. That way I know all lube, fire and filter is good to go. I don't care what the person says when I buy it if they say they changed the oil, I change it anyway.

Yea, I just ordered the following.

- Castrol 10w40
- Honda Oil Filter
- Honda Gear Case Oil
- NGK ZFR7F Plugs
- Fuel Filter
- Thermostat
- Marine Grease
- Water pump kit

I also plan to clean the PCV valve, adjust the valves and check the timing belt. $150 well spent in my opinion. I did not order wires and ignition packs and that seems a little excessive.

Start with new spark plugs, but it sounds like it also might be idling a little slow. Probably a good idea to clean the IAC valve and the throttle body, which could increase the idle speed.
If spark plugs, valve clearance check, and idle speed don't improve the rough idle, a compression test would be the next step.

I recently descaled a motor and used the following with awesome success and mine was THICK.

- 1 spray bottle with 1 part white vinegar, 1 part water
- 1 spray bottle of CLR
- Scotchbrite scrub pads

Lots of elbow grease, it pays to spray and let it soak in a bit and then you will need to scrub, spray and rinse and repeat

I am talking about the inside. The 130s can get some salt and cause cooling issues.
