i have an Evinrude 80 hp Outboard (2 Stroke) and when i had her out yesterday she ran great. Then all of a sudden she died and would not restart no matter what i tried. after about ten minutes of looking and cranking she stopped cranking altogether. Battery was not dead. Long story short when i got home i pooped the cowl to check spark plugs and noticed one was popped out so it will need a helicoil. i hand tightened it and then the boat started and ran great. What happened? would a popped spark plug stop the motor from running? i know little of 2 strokes but i thought it may run poorly but should still run on the remaining 3 cylinders. the no crank must be something got warm or jammed and came unstuck on the trailer ride home so i need to look into that. if my spark plug did not cause this what should i look at? being towed in by the county sherrif after 2 hours drifting really sucks. (apparently i was the only one who wanted to go boating on a day that's sunny and 75..... go figure).
