I have an Evinrude 1998 225Hp

I have an Evinrude 1998 225Hp outboard. I was out yesterday and hit a sand bar. As i was trying to get out of the shallow water. I noticed the no water was comming out. I don't know what that is called but it's to cool the engine. I think it might be clogged with mud fron trying to get out of the shallow water. Any suggestion on how too clean it out. Thanks

"depends on how much mud, sand you sucked up. start by removing cowl. disconnect hose from tell tale fitting.(pee hole) if no flow from hose, follow back to thermostat housings. remove if necessary. if nothing there, go to water pump. hopefully,(and likely) telltale is just plugged. backflish to clean and go on. be carefull not to overheat motor while testing."

Okay I will try that. I ran the boat at idle afterward to get back to water I checked for smoke and heat on the motor everything was fine. What is backflish?
