New out drive noise

"fired up the boat this morn,

"fired up the boat this morn, and have a 'clanking' noise from the outdrive while in neutral, at idle. If I bring up the rpm, the noise stops, but returns at idle,still in neutral. Gimble bearing is about 4hrs run and has no play in it. When the drive is in gear, I can turn the prop side to side about an inch and feel play in it. Any ideas? It didn't do this last weekend, ran fine."
 
Have the outdrive checked for

Have the outdrive checked for a broken tooth or teeth in the cone shaped gears at the top or bottom of the sterndrive... Did you have occasion to shift from reverse into forward without allowing the prop blades time to stop turning completely?
