New Guy with a starting question

HI all, I'm Steve been around boats for a while, always had Merc, Recently bought a 84 Rinker 180V project boat with a 3.0 OMC I/O.
Hull is sound, interior is being replaced, only one soft spot on floor, which I am in the process of replacing, motor starts and runs in neutral ONLY. So begins my question(s).
The motor cranks and starts in neutral, will not crank with throttle in full forward (fast warm up/choke) position, it will NOT turn over in any other position.
I have Sealok and Clymer manuals for this motor/drive and have searched the web but cannot find the information on these throttle/remote controls.
The boat has the original OMC single lever control, with neutral lockout and tilt and trim controls.
Any help diagnosing/repairing this would be appreciated.

Welcome aboard !

I need a picture of your throttle.

You have a stringer drive correct ?

It is the half moon gear that raises the drive ?

Your throttle should not have a trim switch on it unless you have trim meaning the motor goes up and down.

Tilt is the drive going up and down.

Ok ether you have to yank the entire handle towards you and then forward would disengage the neutral safety switch, that switch in the handle won't allow you to start in gear.

Or you have a button in the middle of the handle towards the bottom you push in and then move the throttle handle forward.

With a pic i could tell you exactly.

Post back if you don't understand or need more help !

Thanks for the welcome. I can answer your questions but, wolnt be able to post a picture till tomorrow afternoon.
Yes, it is a stringer with the half moon gear for the tilt.
It does have both power tilt and selectrim.
There are switches on both sides of the shifter "knob" inboard for trim and outboard for tilt.
There is a "trigger" on the knob to release the shifter to put it into full forward position.
The remote may NOT be a OMC part, possibily Morse.

You read what i posted ?

The throttle handle ether has to be moved left, grab the throttle handle as low as you can pull it sideways... should move about a 1/4- 1/3 of a inch and then push forward on the handle if it moved.

Or you have a button in the middle of the handle you push in with one hand and push forward the throttle handle.

Post the pic. if what i posted is not the throttle you have.

As I stated, this may NOT be a OMC control.

The sticker says the control provides neutral lockout.

pull the handle towards you (straight away from the glass window) then move it fwd to work throttle only for cold start

Thanks to both of you, I never thought of tilting the handle, I will give it a try when I get back home this afternoon.
Any idea of the brand on that control?
