new guy here with question 1978 75 hp

i have a 1978 evinrude 75hp how do i remove the shifter rod so i can take the lower unit off to change the water pump thanks in advance

From PORT side of engine, remove the screw going through the vertical shift rod.
(Under the carbs)

You turn the prop with your feet and have somebody operate the control.----------Look for the linkages under the carburetor, you will see it move and it will be obvious where you take the bolt out.
