new engine with VRO

Hi all.

I have a newer engine to put on my boat that has VRO. Its a 1991 70 HP.

I know absolutely nothing about VRO systems.

The fuel tank in the boat is filled up to the top with 50:1 gas.

What is the best way to go now.

Can I still run the tank of gas through the engine with no oil in the tank or do I run the VRO and the pre mix through together.

Will this extra oil damage anything?

Thanks

The extra oil won't damage anything. You'll have more smoke than normal but that's about all. This image below is the correct test procedure to make sure the oil side of the VRO is delivering the correct amount of oil:

You can also fill the oil tank then use the primer bulb (on the oil tank) to prime the oil side of the VRO. Use a wood dowel or metal rod as a dipstick, dunk it in the oil tank, then mark the oil height. Run the boat using your 50:1 premix fuel tank, maybe a couple of tanks of fuel, and then using your dipstick measure the level in the oil tank again. If the oil level has decreased you it's delivering oil, but you won't know exactly how much.
