New Boat

Well after 22 years of being a proud owner of a couple of Crusaiders, I have sold my boat. I think it was a great boat. My wife and I just decided we wanted to take some long-range trips in salt water and the Gibson just isn't designed for that service.

We bought a 1999 49' DeFever Long-range CPMY. It has a range of about 2,000 miles. We hope to take some trips to the Bahamas, Caribbean and points south.

I plan to continue participation in this forum because I think it is the best I have known. I did tell the new owner of Charlie Ann about this site and I hope he takes advantage of the wealth of knowledge that is here.

Take care,

Chuck Hanson

I trust congrats are in order. I'm sure you will find the brine a bit different and, perhaps, a bit more enjoyable. we've always found the view one has when out in the deep is rather unique (& boy have I missed it recently). I can tell you, there is nothing more restful than a good night's sleep after spending a day (or two) out on the ocean.

Keep us up to date on your travels...

That's a great choice, Chuck. If you need any tips about anything in the Bahamas, let us know. My boat has made it as far as San Sal, and what Bahamas is SE of that, I've flown small planes into. Taking the high islands fuel cost and lodging out of the equation should make this a pretty cost effective mode of transport. AND, not so wind dependent. What is the draft? twin small diesels?

My new boat has a draft of 5 feet. It is equipped with twi Perkins Sabre M135 naturally aspirated engines. Based on the first 800 mile trip it looks like it is getting 2 nautical miles per gallon of fuel (not including generator consumption). The fuel capacity is 1150 gallons. Cruising speed is 8 knots. The engines now have 2,500 hours. I am told they are good for 25,000 hours. I think that if they last for 5,000 hours, it will be enough for me. The generator is a Westerbeke 12.5 KW. It burns about 1 gallon per hour at full load.

We look forward to the trip this winter and will be open to all advice.

I will take a look at the trawlers forum. Someway, I don't think I will run into a group as good as this one is.

Thanks again,

Chuck Hanson

Hey Chuck,

Thank you for all of the great tips and suggestions over the last few years. My cousin in Miami runs the Bahamas frequently and loves it. Best of luck...

A little late to reply but i prefer a nice deck boat or center console to cruise around Miami my friend also rented a deck boat once and we went fishing at Biscayne Bay and it did the job just fine.
