"2000 mercruiser w/3.0. White container with oil in it, above the alternater. What kind of oil and what is this for?? sorry, but no manual for the motor as of yet.
There is a line near the top for full. It's about 2x3in. in size give or take...??Thanx in advance for any help"

"Sounds like the reservoir for the stern drive oil, in which case you would use mercruiser drive oil or equiv.

Follow the hose on the bottom. Does it go back to the drive?"

"Yes, it appears you guys are correct. The only time I had to look at it, it was gettin kinda dark and no flashlight in hand. Today was really the first day of decent weather,nothing else to do,so I got to play on the boat for awhile.. Wasn't sure what the oil was for.. Thanx again for the help."
