New 25HP Evinrude suprisingly slow

Hello,

I've had a 14' Klammath with an older 1982 Johnson 15HP engine (J15RCNC) for sometime. The motor finally gave out a few months ago and I now have a 1974 Evinrude 25HP (model: 25402M). Took it out on the lake last weekend and it's very noticeably slower than the smaller 15HP I had before.

This new 25HP looks to be in great condition, starts right up, ect. I'm somewhat new to boating and have limited specific knowledge about boat engines. That being said is there anything I can adjust to bring this engine up to speed? Is it possible this engine is just slower than the smaller 15HP engine it replaced?

Please let me know if I can provide any other details about the engine/boat. Thanks!

Is the shaft the same length? Did you try different trim angles? What is the size and pitch of the prop? Is it running on both cylinders? Do a cylinder drop test by pulling a plug wire while running and quickly put it back on the engine should respond the same on both cylinders.
