Never overlook proper cranking speed!

When chasing a no start problem, especially on a two stroke, which needs a high cranking speed to achieve proper dynamic compression.
I pulled apart my brand new starter today and found a brush wire crimp barely holding on, it clearly couldn't carry proper current, it had been acting as a resistor and the coper wire was discoloured due to heat, compared to the other wires.
So, bolted starter back on and was rewarded with a ridiculously fast cranking speed! I knew it was going to start, connected up fuel line, primed and she caught on second crank!
Now I think about it, I should've known something was wrong when the new starter cranked at the same speed as the old one.
It has been weighing heavily on my mind for some time now and I'm glad it's running now.:)

Regards, Andrew.
