My engine is a 15 hp 1981 johnson. It will start if i push the shifter toward forward some while pushing the starter button. the switch is up all the way to the end of the threads. I am wondering if I need a new switch or what? I can hold the button down and it will start fine. It will not start in neutral.. Help

If still available they are proud of those switches.-----The nuetral switch and the start switch are identical on some models I believe.--------Could look at swapping them around or make adjustments.----A dab of epoxy on the plunger might work.

Adjust the shift cam

I am trying that and it appears that someone has tried that. The adjustment rod was almost all the way out. I think that may be the wrong direction. The switch works, I am just wondering if it should (open or close) sooner when pushed down. Not sure if it is worn or what. I put a water pump impeller in it last night. When I stated to put it back together an exaust baffle fell out and now I don't know where it goes. Can you help me with that? Thanks

Fits in a slot at the back of the exhaust housing.-----Maybe hold it in place with grease during assembly.----------Nuetral switch closes to make the starter crank.

Thank you very much. I looked in daylight and saw the slot, got that taken care of. The info on the switch will help a bunch. I will try to adjust. Thank you
