needle bearing greese

Hi all, Can I use a good brand of molly greese instead of needle bearing greese?I have heard the main reason for the greese is to keep the loose rollers in place. The old style bearings the needles are seperate from there cages and i can see it may be a beeaahch to put them back in place with reassemblly of the wrist pin and connecting rod caps and crankshaft center bearings. The new style bearings i have the needle and cage are one unit and the needles stay in place making the job much easier.I would think the greese will just come off after the motor is ran and up to temp then the 2cycle oil takes over with a correct mix of 50 - 1. allowing good lubication in the engine. If it is a must to use needle bearing greese is there a name of a brand i should use? any pointrers i should no at this point of reassemblly this is my first outboard rebuild project I am open to any feedback and helpfull hints along my way to see this old girl purr again. thank you Tony

You have to use assembly grease. Some greases have fibers which can damage internal engine parts. I rebuild about 6 10 engines a week and I use some green stuff, I forget the name of. I will post the name after work tomorrow. Vaseline is also an alternative, though the stuff I use is really sticky and makes assembly a breeze.
