Need a good mobile mechanic to check timing & fine tune completely rebuilt (2023) 1983 Evinrude 70hp 3 cylinder on our pontoon boat.

Per my son:
Won't go into reverse, high idle is not effective as normal, stalls when put into fwd.
Ran fine in Fwd once started 5 miles to camp when launched but it was hard-ish to
start and had no reverse at that time, thought to be just an adjustment problem.

Physicist/engineer son thought just a cable adjustment, now suspects a chipped
plastic gear (parts ordered) in the shift control box is partly responsible, also two
stiff old cables (have 2 new ones from West Marine), and possibly timing. The 70
has a brand new guaranteed re-manufactured block, new remanufactured lower
unit, 3 rebuilt carbs, new coils etc. Essentially a new motor but it was done hours
away in NY by a reputable in-business for decades marine repair place near home,
and it was not tested in water at the time. It's too far to haul the boat home now,
and of course we'd like to be able to use it before Fall, plus how do we get back
now to the launch ramp.

Sounds Like shift rod height was not set correctly.----Plus a few more issues to be sorted out.-----Might just need idle stop screw adjusted to keep it from stalling.
