Needed information on a Mercury Outboard

I just bought a 1996 Weeres Pontoon 24 ft with a 75 HP Mercury Motor. When I am on the lake with WOT I get between 3000 to 3500 RPM at max. I am not sure on the year of the motor, the Serial number is 06271141 and the prop on it has the number 48 77342A45 15P. The Prop is pretty banged up and I am wondering what I can do to get the motor to perform better Max I am getting about 15MPH and I figured I should get more than that with a 75 HP motor but maybe not. Just don't think that is the right RPM range. Is that the right prop or is there a better prop I could get for it. Thanks. I am a NOOB to having a Pontoon.

Get the prop refurbished to start...about $60 here. Take a look at the plugs to see if they look the same...the color should be medium brown. Check for good spark...it should jump 7/16" gap w/a pronounced snap. While it is on the trailer take a rubber mallet and sound the pontoons to see if they contain water.

Suggest you borrow a 14 pitch prop from a dealer and try it on your boat--a good dealer will do that (especially if he/ she thinks you'll buy a new one from them!) Getting your present prop repaired would tick you off if you then found it had too much pitch!
