Need some Merc KH7 advice

I recently bought a very nice 1952 KH7 Super 10 Cruiser. I've rebuilt the carb, the magneto and water pump check out OK. Now I want to replace the crankshaft seals. I don't want to mess-up this 66 year old gem. Do I need a "seal puller"? I've never seen or used one but it is referenced in an OMC repair manual I have. Do you need the seal puller or is there an alternative method? If I need a seal puller where do I get one?

Thanks in advance guys,

Bill

A long thin screw driver is all you need.

Hey Jeff,

Long thin screwdriver eh? I was hoping someone would suggest that. I assume that you would dig the blade of the screwdriver between the rubber seal and the steel collar's lip and pry?

Yeah, I'm going to join John's Old Merc forum. I almost did but I just bought a 12' aluminum boat and the old KH7 and about $180.00 worth of parts and special tools for the old Merc. My bank account is busted. These weren't planed purchases - they were "opportunity knocks once" purchases. These 20 C.I. block Mercs have been with me all my life. I have a real "soft spot" for them

Thanks for the advice Jeff.

Cheers,

Bill
