"First off let me say this loo

"First off let me say this looks like a really great site.I just purchased my first boat which is a one owner 1977 Cobia 18' with an AQ 140 volvo 4 cylinder engine. After three weeks of prevenitive maintenance and cleaning and tuning today we put it in the water for the first time.
The boat seemed to run really well ,although the lake was a little rough and the boat did not seem to plane out very well.Or the bow of the boat seemed to stay too high up in the air. Is this common, also what temprature should the boat run at,it has the original volvo gauge and it ran at 150 and between the 8 and 9 on the gauge,it has a 180 degree thermostat in it.
We rode around the lake for 4 hours and the temp stayed the same all that time. When we removed the boat we noticed a small hole in the exhaust bellows and water was running out slightly so my next job is to replace that. I really enjoyed the boat,it is a really clean and solid boat with the original interior and carpet and white top.
I am now looking to replace the carpet, seats and top also so if anyone has any recomendations as to where to get all that from, brand of items etcI would appreciate it.I would look at just getting the original boxes or seats recovered but there is some very slight rot in places so I think it is time to upgrade it all to new stuff.Any help and information would be greatly appreciated.
I know very little about boating and will be asking numerous questions from you guys and gals. Please bear with me some of the questions I ask and seek advice for may seem stupid but I am one that is very willing to learn."

"Hi, welcome to the board.

"Hi, welcome to the board.

Regarding the bow being high when on the plane, there is a pin in the transom shield against which the outdrive rests. The trim pin has three possible positions (default is in the middle). If the pin is in the hole fartherst away from the transom shield, move it to the middle and try again. You may also consider installing trim tabs on your boat.

The running temperature for your engine's coolant is 180ºF-198ºF.

The exhaust bellows has a hole at the bottom to drain water from the exhaust when trailering. That is the way it is supposed to be.

You may also want to download the operator's manual for your engine. Go to the link below and under "engine type" type AQ140.
