" I have a 89 Cobolt w/ a 4.3L Merc Aplha One. The boat was not winterized correctly and I need a new block, I was totally screwed. I have $2000 to fix it. The marina will charge me $800 for labor. How do I go about starting the search for a GM 4.3L Long Block? "

Do you need a long block? How are your heads? You could do what I did. Buy an old 4.3 from a Monte Carlo or similar from e-bay or a wrecking yard and rebuild it using your cam, heads and accessories. They are not that hard to find and you can be back on the water for less than $600 if you do the work yourself. Even if your heads are bad, the auto heads are the same for that year and normally come on a used engine. If you need any pointers, I would be happy to answer your questions. "
