Need model number help to find shifter shaft.

Hello from SC. I have a BF15A outboard and I need help with my model number. My tag reads BAAS-1501171 (BF15A). This is a 2000 model. When I try looking up the part I need, which is the lower shift shaft, the number shown is longer than mine. Like BF15AY LA or whatever. I can't seem to find the right one. I have ordered the wrong shaft once already. If you can help I will be grateful.
 
You suffix could be SA, SAS, LA, LAS, OR XAS. It all depends on the length of your shaft.

If your motor was registered with Honda when it was bought, I can check tomorrow to know for sure. The Honda data base is down over the weekends for maintenance.

In the meantime, if you measure the distance from the point the the motor clamps on the transom to the horizontal fin, just above the prop, that will tell you the shaft length.

If you measure around 15 inches - it is an SA If it has electric start - it is an SAS
If you measure around 20 inches - it is an LA If it has electric start - it is an LAS
If you measure around 25 inches - it is an XAS They only came in electric start

It is possible that it was not registered, since back in those days, the warranty cards had to be filled out and sent in.

You could still find out by calling Honda Customer Relations, if I can not find it. They have access to a lot more than a dealer does.

Thank you for the reply Mike. I measured mine at around 20". I have the foot off the motor. I checked a site that I ordered a shaft from, Honda Marine, and it didn't show anything older than 2004. I missed that when ordering the shaft. I ordered a 24311-ZV4-700 and it is longer. I thank you for you help.
 
Hey Mike. Thank you again for your help. This is what I came up with when I ordered the wrong one. 24311-ZV4-700 is 15-1/4" and mine is around 10-1/4". I thought about cutting the new one and putting it on the press and drilling new 2.5 mm holes but I would hate for the pin to come loose inside the gear case. I guess I will try to return it and get the right one. Seems crazy that the model number is not complete on the tag. I tried to post pictures but not happening. Thanks Mike.

I must not have been very clear as to how to measure your motor.

Looking it up, you have a 15" transom length.

The model number is BF15AYSA.

So your shift shaft part should be 24310-ZV4-010.
