"hi, can anyone tell me what kind of symtems would a set of week reed valves cause on a 55el79c. it seems like i drop a cylinder at mid throttle, idles rough, comes back above half to full wot...."
 
do a compression test/check sp

do a compression test/check spark/Fuel filter?
also when were carbs serviced last.

"hello charles. its been a few weeks but i remember comp was 140+/- x2 dry. someone has been into this motor before i purchased it. i rebuilt the carbs, a total rebuild, even had to replace the pick up tubes.i drilled out all plugs& cleaned resealed, now the 2 carbs have three jets ea, idle, int/idle, high speed. i looked up what jets are supposed to be in there @ shop.evinrude. but they don't tell me the idle or the idle/int size, my idle is a .055 and idle/int is.059..i could not get the high speed jets out so i didn't force them just cleaned. the spects say 57d.. do you know. iam thinking the jets are the wrong size.."

i dont know why someone would have done that,there should only be 2 low and high jets

now the 2 carbs have three jets ea, idle, int/idle, high speed"

"yes. evinrude only did that for 78/79 commerical engines.55EL79c. the 55EL79 has two jets. also the #s on my carbs dont match what evinrude says. but again my carbs do have 3ea jets and evinrude says 3ea for that year,"
