Need Help

hello everyone i have just bought a used boat and i took it out the other day and the batteries were dead so i took it back to my house and charged them. Took it back out to the lake and tried to start the motor and the starter turns but will not engage my fly wheel to turn it over. Then took it back to my house thinking the battery was bad bought a new one but it in and tried it one more time same thing starter turns but wont engage the fly wheel any one know why? Thanks

Model # is ??????------Sounds like a problem with wiring or the starter itself.-----Take starter apart for inspection , if bad get it repaired or find a new one.

It is a 2000 Johnson 70 hp

Those starters are easy to take apart for inspection / testing.--------Salt water motor ?-----Have you checked and inspected the wiring ??

no on the salt water and no i have not looked at any of that

Consider checking the starter drive assembly (the gear on the starter that engages the flywheel). Not uncommon for them to stick.
