Need help with year of motor

"I am having a difficult time

"I am having a difficult time figuring out the year of my mercury 25 HP motor. It was made in Canada and has a serial number of: A727993

I think it is between 1985 and 1990.

Any help that can be offered would be greatly appreciated.

"Hi Dave, yes, that's a Canadian built (Mississauga) Merc - built in late 86 - would have sold as a 1987 at the dealer.

These did not have a model "number", just simply the 25.

If electric start it would have been referred to as a 25E and if a long shaft (20") would have had an L tacked on the end (ie. 25EL).

Slighly earlier models were the XD series and a few years later they were marketed as the "Sea Pro".

This exact model is still sold in Canada as Merc's 25 horse 2 stroke "Salt-Water edition".

An outstanding motor whether it was built in 86 or last week...."
