Need help with Volvo 8.1!!!!

Hey guys, new to the forum. I just bought a 2007 crownline 260 with the 8.1 Volvo GI. I took it out for a ride and it misfires on acceleration. Seems fine at idle. Under load it misses and seems sluggish. There is also a loud ping/knock type noise under load at 3500 rpm and then goes away. The boat seems to run ok after reaching cruising speeds. The fuel tested ok. The plugs are new. Also performed compression test, ok. Performed a leak down test at 90 psi and only had a 5% loss. So mechanically it seems good. Any ideas?

Ayuh,..... Sounds like it's starvin' for gas,.... The pingin' noise is the motor consumin' itself from detonation,....

Pull the fuel filter, 'n examine it's contents for anything but clean fresh gasoline,.....

Its not a spark knock condition. It’s more of a knock/ pop noise every 4-6 seconds and not a rapid clatter like spark knock. I grabbed a coil to try while on the lake next week.

Had the same issue after purchasing a 2007 Chaparral 256 SSX with a new remanufactured engine installed. I assumed plugs and wires were replaced with the repower. In checking resistance on each wire and the plugs I found a wire and at least on plug with higher resistance than the others. I replaced all of the plugs and wires which corrected the issue. At the very least the plug wires had been swapped from the old motor. Hope this helps. All it takes is one plug or wire to have high resistance and you will get the symptoms described under load. At idle fine but when needed, that resistance will causes a misfire.
