Need help with Remote Controls

I have a 1988 Johnson 90hp VRO on my pontoon. I'm in need of a concealed mounted remote control. The only part number I can find is 173643 or 173644. The part numbers mentioned are for starboard side mounting. The problem here is my controls are mounted on the right side of my console, effectively a port side mount. Can these part numbers be modified to fit on the port side without forward now being reverse and reverse being forward?

Additionally, Looking through the parts section on this site, I see that p/n 173644 is now obsolete, but has been replaced with numerous part numbers, each one now obsolete as well. The latest one shown is 5006561, but it shows for 1996 motor and up. Would 5006561 be compatible with my 1998 motor?

Help please! I'm ready to get out on the water. lol
 
I can't visualize what type control box you're speaking of... BUT... many control boxes are swapped from side to side simply by using large diameter plastic spacers so as to have the control handle clear the mounting area.

The controls that came with the Johnson 90hp that just put on the boat came with what appears to be the 173643 control. The mounting flange on the 173643 & 173644 are cast into the housing, so the handle won't swap around.

Right side of the console, (ie: envision a center console with the control mounted on the right side of the console). The 173643 control box I have came with the Johnson 90hp motor I have now. The old motor was a mercury, using a mercury 300 concealed box, which was mounted to the right side of the console). I'll take a few pictures later and post, it may make more sense.
