Need help with outdrive

Thanks in advance for the help.

I have a 2001 alpha 1 gen 2 drive.
Over the winter I replaced the gimball bearing with a new oem one, aligned the coupler and changed fliuld.
I did it because it was making some noise when turning.
I took it out for the first time this summer and it was still making noise when turning.
I took it back apart and replaced the u joints with new oem, checked alignment. Took it out again and it's still making noise when turning.

I'm stumped, what should I be checking next?

I would be stumped too given that. Is there play in input shaft to outdrive? Might pop the top cap of outdrive and see what it looks like. My gen 2 sat for,any years before I bought boat. Lube never had water but was black when I bought boat. I always thought drive was noisy upper bearing in drive had corrosion pitting. Have not run it since changing but thinking that was noise

I'll check that out, it only makes the noise if I turn the drive about 75% in either direction. Less then that it's quiet.

While you have the outdrive off to check play in input shaft , recheck gimbal bearing is fully seated and smooth. I used Spicer u-joints when I did mine - they came with two different thickness snap rings (outside snap ring) the thicker ring matched up close to the OEM ones, but on one of the joints it was very stiff with the thicker snap rings, not sure if I tweaked pressing out the old ones. Just would double check the joints are not binding.

If you have a dial indicator would think you can use it on the input yoke to measure run out. Don't know if there is a listed spec but would think the same as what they give for prop shaft runout would be ok
